Opened in December 2022, the Peka Peka to Ōtaki Expressway has significantly reduced congestion and improved travel time reliability for both people and freight in the area. Bypassing Ōtaki township, this expressway is part of the Kāpiti Expressway, connecting to the Mackay’s to Peka Peka section further south. Axell was engaged by the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) to reset the contract administration for the Design and Construct (D&C) phase of this project.
Axell collaborated with NZTA to implement a hybrid MSQA delivery model, enhancing transparency among the Contractor, Principal’s Advisor, and the Principal, and eliminating conflicts of interest. This model established a clear separation between the Contract Administration team, Principal’s Advisor, and the D&C Contractor.
Axell’s involvement was crucial in fostering collaboration and ensuring the successful delivery of the Peka Peka to Ōtaki Expressway, a key infrastructure project that enhances connectivity and efficiency in the region.
